PG2016.1-Wiley

UC-B Properties has long been a supporter of the arts and local artists. Artwork graces the halls of nearly every UC-B Properties project. With avid art collectors as co-founders of UC-B Properties, that comes as no surprise. So it was as thrill when UC-B owners John and Sharon Hoffman attended the unveiling of the presidential portraits of Barack and Michelle Obama at the Smithsonian Portrait Gallery. The photo above is from John and Sharon’s point of view!

President Obama’s portrait was painted by Kehinde Wiley and Amy Shepard was the artist for Michelle Obama’s likeness. This was the first time that African American artists have been selected to create work for the Smithsonian Portrait Gallery. The unveiling was especially meaningful for John and Sharon Hoffman as they had previously acquired “Saint Adrian,” a work by Kehinde Wiley, which they have promised as a gift to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO. You can hear more about the unveiling and the artwork straight from the artist’s mouth in the audio clips below.
